Catalyst

Are you a catalyst for change? Are you a Change-Maker? What does one look like? In the corporate world employees are challenged and often required to bring fresh thoughts and creativity to the table each day.

Success Magazine recently published an article ” 6 Insights on How to be a Change-Maker” which focused on ways to stand head and shoulders above the crowd in the business world.

The article was both intriguing and thought provoking, but while reading, I found my thoughts wandering down a slightly different path as I imagined how these same principals might speak even louder as guideposts for personal growth.

6 Insights on How to Be a Change Maker

Lead the Way- “A leader anticipates and prepares for change,” says the innovator behind the LifeStraw water filter, Mikkel Vestergaard Frandsen.

Are you a leader by design  or default? We all  have areas in life where others look to us for guidance. If you are a parent, a spouse, a friend, operate in ministry or are breathing when you get out of bed- eyes are watching you. Stand out from the crowd and be aware. Don’t be a leader by default.

Think Big – “Fortune does favor the bold, and you’ll never know what you’re capable of if you don’t try,” says Sheryl Sandberg-Facebook COO “If you’re offered a seat on a rocket ship, don’t ask what seat,” she adds. “Just get on!”

Are you a small thinker ? Do limiting beliefs hold you captive? What does being bold mean to you? Each of us can be tripped up by negative self talk. Seriously, stop it. Today is a new day. The past is over and the present is yet to arrive on your door step. Today must be unwrapped and lived. We fail simply by not trying. What rocket ship is waiting outside your door?

Ignore Convention “Move fast and break things”- Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg

No one can dispute the impact social media has had on our life. Whether you love it or despise it, you cannot ignore it. Zuckerberg’s sage advice to ” move fast and break things” is useful to the rest of us. We must march to the beat of our own drummer if we are planning to change the world.  Juni Desiree’ is a blogger I recently discovered who is changing the world one step at a time in a most unusual way. She is simply giving away $50 each month to a person or cause that resonates with her soul and plans to keep increasing it until she is giving away at least half of her income. Unconventional.

Sweep ’Em Off Their Feet “Build something 100 people love,” says Airbnb’s Brian Chesky. “Not something 1 million people kind of like.”

It is impossible to please 100% of the people all the time. Perhaps it is time to stop trying. Go for quality not quantity in your relationships, your possessions and your actions. How are you spending your time? Who are you spending it with? Time is like money, it is finite. Consider where your time is best spent and where it brings the greatest impact. Invest there.

Believe in Yourself  The best ideas often defy imagination. “If you don’t believe it, no one else is going to believe it,” says VICE’s Shane Smith. “But if you believe it and keep saying it, then slowly one person will believe you, then two, then three, then four….” Once they come around, you look like a genius.

Do you believe in your ideas and the possibilities they hold? What would it take to move forward in your passion? Do you have a dream or an idea you have allowed someone else to squelch by words of defeat or dismissal? If you don’t believe in yourself… why should anyone else? Small steps taken with regularity hold the potential to bring about significant change. A seemingly insignificant drop of water, over time literally can reshape a mountain. Michael Hyatt is a passionate believer in the power which is created when small steps over time are implemented.

Rethink the Way You Keep Score “Doing good is good business,” says Andrew Hewitt. On his website GameChangers500.com, The best way to make the shift, he says, is to adopt new metrics: Start measuring your impact, not just your revenue.

During his time on earth, Jesus did not keep score of those who wronged him. He simply loved. His impact was far-reaching in his day and now reaches all corners of the planet. As one who desires to live my faith in a daily practical way, my response to God’s love leads me to my own deepest desire-devotion to knowing His heart and living my life in such a way to be Jesus with skin on to another.

  1. Wow, this is amazing! Thank you so much for the mention. Great post and I love your blog. Just signed up.

  2. Dear Nancy,
    I missed you!
Lots going on in my life that I barely make it to social media.
Wonderful, wise post! All six points strong and valid.
    My main want and need:
To leave this world a little better than how I found it.
We found ourselves in a place that we never thought we would be.
We either swim and save someone drowning or drown with others we barely knew.
We either help with …blood or others die.
We never thought we would last this long. Not only we did but the impact we have created for so many people was so big that it is changing already a corner of the world.
We are still bleeding by all this, but God has never left our side. He continues to find ways for us to help where and when help is extremely needed, whether that comes in monetary assistance or mental, spiritual, and intuitive support. Literally, lives have been saved by my daughter’s dreams and intuition.
We know that God placed us in this position not only because we were the only ones to do it despite the fact that our means were limited, but also because He knew that when things turned around, those we helped and we will continue making an impact in the lives of many and far—
An unbearable responsibility, yet an honor and a gift!

    Have a wonderful day, Nancy!
God’s blessings to you and your family!

    1. Katina- so good to hear from you… blessings and hugs…
