Surround Yourself With Beauty ; Secrets of Simplicity

The most mundane activities become luxuries if you add one or two small things to transform them into special occasions. An ordinary cup of tea becomes a treat in a beautiful china cup with a spoonful of real cream. Candle light at dinner creates a moment of mystery and ambiance is brought to a mid-week meal of meatloaf and potatoes.

Drink your water out of a lovely glass. A tub of water becomes a fragrant retreat with a splash of scented lavender oils. Splurge on plush bath towels and save them for you and your spouse. No sharing with the little people in your home. Instead of a gaggle of cheap blue ink pens in your desk drawer, buy one exquisite pen that you love to write with.

What is beauty and luxury to you? Is it a goose down pillow or a velour throw on the couch to nestle into on a cold morning? Do you save the cloth napkins for special occasions? Why not pull them out for use everyday. They are easy to wash and have the bonus of saving a tree or two over your life time.

  1. I love this post. For the last year or so, the realization came to me that I had things packed away that I loved; saving them for a “special day”, but the beauty of them was being lost to the past. The only one enjoying them was the cardboard boxes they were hiding in.
Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, but I came to the conclusion that I have no guarantee of tomorrow- no promise of any “special days”- just this moment. That’s all I have.
So I started to use the things I love, be they an item of clothes, or a necklace, or a serving piece, or a special pen! I love taking luxurious baths with lavender and salts, and I find that drinking my recommended ounces of water go down much easier when I drink them from fancy stemware, or even that statuesque pilsner.
Life is about LIVING, and I’m tired of mediocrity. I want to enjoy it, live it, and feel like I’m special while doing it.
Surround yourself with things which make you happy. Use the expensive dishes and glasses; wear the shirt or pants or jewels that make you feel awesome. Every day IS a special day. Celebrate it!

    1. I love this Cheryl… let’s celebrate it….. hugs!!
