Fast Living

Are you living too fast?

Do your moments pass by at lightening speed? Life of fast living Nancy Bouowens Life Coach Writer

The hectic pace of our 24/7 lifestyle showers our days with a frenzy of go, do, buy, sell and be.

A recent random observation is the speed at which I type at work. I have noticed when I am stressed (which I often am at work)  or busy (which I almost always am) I can tap on those keys at the speed of sound!

However, when I intentionally slow down the rhythm of my fingers, I focus more, breathe deeper and am more aware of my surroundings and actions. Subconsciously I feel the unspoken rule that I need to work faster and harder to be the best at what I do.

No one has said this. No one has required this of me. But yet, daily I type and work like a mad-woman, often working through lunch and barely coming up for a breath of fresh air.

I am making an effort to iintentionally breathe, pause, look up and notice the world that surrounds me while I am at work. I am choosing to type slower, and that alone has brought the smallest of shifts to my work day. fingers typing fast

There is much yet to change within myself in and out as I continue the process of embracing a life of simple abundance… but today, I touch the keys with a slightly slower beat and for me this has been good.

When you think of slowing your life down what comes to mind for you?

  1. Great words that I decided to follow this Fall and into Winter. I felt I didn’t enjoy my moments when we were on vacation with friends this past August. I was always thinking about the next thing, why couldn’t we do this instead, and always focusing on something later…rather than the now moment. I’m trying to enjoy the now moment, to enjoy the journey of what this moment brings me. Good words and thoughts!

    1. Diane- “the now moment” … those three words in succession inspire me to take a breath and pause. I look forward to the journey of slowing down and savoring the now.
      Thanks for stopping by!
      Nancy 🙂
